Lluest Horse and Pony Trust And What they do.

Lluest Horse and Pony Trust is a small charity running a rescue/rehabilitation centre, with an average of 90 horses and ponies in approved loan homes, and a further 35 or more equines cared for at the trust. Nestling against the Black Mountain in the beautiful Carmarthenshire countryside. The Trust is entirely dependant upon voluntary donations and fund-raising activities. Anybody who gives to this charity will be assured that every penny possible is used on the purpose it is given- to care for the animals. It particularly covers the Swansea and Llanelli areas, some of the worst in the UK for stray horses and ponies. The aim is always to restore animals to full health and find them a loan home, if this is not possible they are assured a safe home for the rest of their natural lives.
I am undertaking a sponsored ride starting in Prestatyn on the 13th August and ending in Sennybridge Show on the the 3rd September. It will take three weeks and I will be covering 300+ Miles with Suzie my 22year old arabx mare rescued by Lluest in 2009

A Mum's point of view

View from B&B window
A fraught night spent at Jeff and Kate at Morgan's B & B. Everyone stressed and not much sleep.  The breakfast was fantastic as were the views, the welcome etc.  Suzie also had a good night in her massive stable at Bridlewood Stables, Prestatyn.  Again everyone was really helpful.  The big set of saddle bags broke at the last minute causing some panic but we just put all the stuff into my car and eventually Beth set off, vanishing into the distance.

Nicola was a great in support at home finding the address of a great tack shop in Denbigh which had saddle bags in stock.  So my first unscheduled stop of the day was to be there, but... soon realized Beth's camera was still in the lorry which was on the coast road back home - quick phone call and met up with Paul in a lay by then off to Denbigh.  Acre House Equestrian must have just about all your horsey needs and came up trumps with saddle bags and a seat save - not long down the road and Bethan was complaining of a sore bum!

Mixed herb salad yum!
Eventually met up with Beth for lunch - she was cheerful having been given some donations along the way and Nicola rang to say some fellow riders wished to join her on Day Two.

My next job was to deliver feed to all the overnights during the first week - easy! until you realise there are mountains in the way! This meant TWO trips over the Horse Shoe Pass - stunning. As I was meeting Beth for supper I decided wot work backwards starting at her first three day break working back to her first night.  It is quite a long way from Denbigh to Llanerfyl going around, but I mad my way  via Horse Shoe Pass to Llangollen and then back west to Llanerfyl. I was amazed to be able to find everyone and must apologise for how late it ended up being.

On her way.
Unfortunately Ty Isaf were away but the dogs were very friendly and greed to take the food and her laptop for lastmiute revision (for some reason Beth has booked her Theory Test for 20th - in the middle of the ride!)  Next stop Lake Vyrnwy and Fron Heulog Caravan Park great views.  Now a trip along wonderful lanes through Penybont Fawr to Bellvue Holiday Cottage, Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant, where Beth will be staying in Janet and Richard's touring caravan.  What great villages with pubs, shops and a sense of real community. Up into the hills next to Springhill Farm where Beth will be staying for her birthday. Steve has very kindly marked a nicer route for her to get to them and will try and take out a ride, least part of the way with her, when she leaves. By this time it was getting later than I'd hoped and Beth rang to see where I was, although she was still up on a hillside! All these little roads look very alike and the road signs just vanish when you need them.  Now back over the Horse Shoe to Cae Crwn at Bryneglwys meanwhile listening to a programme about after dinner speakers with Max Boyce is good!  On the home straight now to Gweryd Lakes  the last stop before meeting  up with Bethan...BUT by now it is 9pm! Bethan rang to say she had arrived some time ago she was hungry and so was Suzie!  Luckily Olwen at Maes y Wern had pizza to offer Beth and field of lovely grass for Suzie.

I finally arrived at Landyrnog and eventually remembered the directions to the B&B.  While Bethan transferred her stuff into the new saddle bags Olwen thankfully offered me the best cup of tea of the day.  Having been refreshed I wished Beth a good nights sleep and set off home back to Crai, arriving back and falling into bed at 1.30 am!

What a day, but I had seen of the best and least visited parts of Wales and I am very glad I live in such a beautiful country.
